Which pump should I choose for my pool, to meet the flow rate requirement?
You must choose a suitable filtration pump that meets the flow rate requirement of your pool.
To do so, you must first determine this required flow rate:
- Calculate the volume of your pool in cubic metres. Measure the length, width and depth of your pool. Multiply these dimensions together to find the total volume in cubic metres.
- Divide your pool volume by 6 to calculate the useful flow rate of the pump. The general recommendation is that all water in the pool must be filtered within 6 hours. In high season, we recommand that you filter your pool water at least 3 times a day. This is the equivalent of 3 filtration cycles of 6 hours.
Once you have calculated the flow rate, you must choose the pool pump that matches your requirements:
- Check the technical characteristics of the pumps and check the maximum flow rate that each one can achieve. Be aware that the given flow rates correspond to a particular pressure value, 8 or 10 mWC (metre of water column). For each installation, these values must be reviewed by the pool installer.
- Select a pump that correspond to your pool's flow rate requirement.
- Make sure you take into consideration other factors such as the pump power, the compatibility with your filtration system and the specific characteristics of your pool.
