Salt Concentration Computer
Calculate the recommended salt level for your pool thanks to our configurator!
How can I calculate the optimal salt concentration for a pool treated by salt chlorination?
To calculate the optimal salt concentration, you can follow these steps:
- Check the recommandations: read the user manual or the instructions provided with your salt chlorinator to discover which specific recommendations apply.
- Measure the current salinity of the water: use a specific salinity tester for pools (conductivity sensor or salt sensor) to measure the current salt chlorination of the water in your pool. This measure is generally expressed in parts per million (ppm) or in grams per litre (g/L).
- Check the recommended value ranges: salt chlorinator systems have recommended ranges for the salt concentration. These ranges can vary, but generally, the optimal salt concentration is between 2500 and 4000 ppm (or 2.5 to 4 g/L).
- Adjust the salt concentration if necessary: if the current reading is lower or higher than a recommended range, adjust the salt concentration in your pool. Follow the instructiond to add salt or dilute the water in your pool as a result.
- Wait until completely dissolved: after adjusting the salt, allow the water to circulate and mix for at least 24 hours to allow time for the added salt to dissolve completely.
- Repeat the readings and adjustments if necessary: after the recommended time period, measure the salinity again to make sure the salt concentration is in the optimum range. If necessary, make adjustments by adding or diluting salt.
The ideal salt concentration can also be calculated using the following formula:
Pool volume x 2 if your pool is under normal conditions; x 2.5 if the pool temperature is higher than 28°C; x3 if the temperature is higher than 28°C and children use it.
Then, add the number of swimmers multiplied by 10 and divide the answer by the daily filtration time. This will give you the recommended salt concentration.
