A unit of prime importance, the pump puts water in motion so that it can be filtered and treated. You could say it’s the heart of a swimming pool. When choosing the pump, take the pool size into account: the more water there is to treat, the more powerful the pump needs to be. We also need to consider the pool configuration: the height and the distance of the pump from the pool, the type of pool, overflow or with skimmers, and finally, the equipment, electrolyser, heat pump etc.
Attention: the pump must be perfectly compatible with the filter. An excessively powerful pump will result in poor filtration. Therefore, filtration capacity and technology also have to be taken into account in connection with satisfactory pump/filter pair operation. This same notion of compatibility also applies to pipes: wrongly dimensioned, they will cause your pump to run under adverse conditions and generate a host of problems. You will now see why a pump has to be perfectly integrated with the entire pool and its equipment.

Variable speed? Manufacturers are now offering variable speed pumps. What are these? The principle of the variable speed pump is that it constantly circulates water but at a slower output. Whereas the conventional pump runs at 14m³/hour for 12 hours, a variable speed pump will run at 7 m³/hour for 24 hours, treating the same volume of water. At this flow rate, not only is the water better filtered and continuously treated but your electricity consumption will be lower. This means better quality water while saving on energy.
